About the Town

A place like no other

Ojai — pronounced "OH-hi" — takes its name from the Chumash word for "moon." The valley sits in a rare east-west running mountain range, which creates the legendary "Pink Moment": at sunset, the Topatopa Mountains turn a luminous shade of pink while the valley below falls into shadow.

The town has attracted artists, writers, and seekers for over a century — from philosopher Krishnamurti, who spent much of his life here, to the generations of potters, painters, and musicians who still form the backbone of its community today.
